Covers for Money

Tina sits at a baby grand piano playing covers for money
says “ain’t it funny, always used to think I’d be the one to change the face of music, guess it
didn’t feel like smiling for me”
and the patrons at the bar say “Tina, play that song,
the one about the kid who moves to Mexico.”
so she touches the keys, but doesn’t feel anything at all.

Tina sits at a baby grand piano playing covers for money
says “ain’t funny always thought I’d be
just like Lennon or McCartney maybe I could plan a trip to Abby Road one day.”
and she fights to make ends meet playing to kids off the street. “Play some Skynnyrd!” they say
so she presses the keys, but doesn’t feel anything at all.

We all want something more, a bright display of colors to wash and cover these tired days
in a drunken haze.
So give me something unreal, cause I don’t want to think, I don’t want to feel
sing me a lullaby of a cloudless sky.

Tina sits at a baby grand piano playing covers for money...
