lyrics

Life is but a dream

I met a girl who said her head didn’t work like it should
happiness was fleeting. No, she never could
make much sense of many things
traded me her worry stone for my promise ring

I said “don’t worry, doll things are not what they seem
this life is but a dream.”

I laid with her for hours, we nearly fell asleep
on Lake Superior’s frozen wind-swept beach
and I stared into that freckled face
pried from the mirrors of her rented space

and said “don’t worry, doll your sadness will be erased
at its own pace.
Don’t be so hard on yourself
leave that to someone else because no one can hurt you
quite like you
don’t be so hard on yourself
leave that to someone else because no one can hurt you
quite like you.”
Oh, and we fell asleep.

I met a man who did some fascinating magic tricks.
He said it was “all sleight of hand, memory and mathematics”
and a page is burning in a book
and it burns my eyes as I try to look
I can nearly make out exactly what the words say
as they’re carried away.

From Metropulse.com

On Dearest Echo, Allen matches thick, ambient guitar and synthesizer with Britpop melodies for an approximation of Radiohead, or Wilco at its most expansive. Allen’s solid voice has a forlorn quality that works with the music’s depressive tone. ... more
